ScrewtapeThe Screwtape Letters is a wickedly witty and entertaining theatrical adaptation from the C.S. Lewis book of the same title, and it's coming to Charleston for three performances only. (July 26 & 27) Written from a demon's point of view, this story of spiritual warfare follows Satan's chief "psychiatrist", Screwtape, as he beguiles a human "patient" toward damnation. In this jumbled, backward world God is the "Enemy" and the Devil is "Our Father Below". The stakes are high as human souls are hell's primary source for food, but the tale somehow manages to blend thought provoking subjects with hilarity as Screwtape's assistant, Toadpipe, bungles assignments.

The Screwtape Letters has enjoyed quite a bit of success thus far. It played 309 performances in the Westside Theatre in NYC in 2010.  It ran for six months in Chicago, and prompted the Chicago Tribune to describe The Screwtape Letters as the "most successful show in the history of Chicago's Mercury Theatre". It also played at The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C. for ten sold-out weeks.
